Early holiday shopping in the East Village

Call me crazy, but I have already started my holiday shopping.

In fact, I am almost done with a couple people on my list and it feels really good to be getting shopping done early! I was chatting with someone at Gong Fu Tea and she was mentioning she wasn’t aware of all the fantastic things in the area, which made me realize we need to talk about these fantastic shops. I have a goal of, at least, 75% of my gifts from local and small businesses, which is hard if you don’t know what there is to choose from, so I am here for a little gift guide.

I love the self love and body positive movement we are in the middle of. Angela Chrusciaki Blehm has absolutely stunning pieces celebrating womanhood called Peek-A-Boob. I love Angela’s work because all of it is very empowering and vibrant. Nothing goes with self love like pretty intimates. Amour has a lovely collection of bras and undies and sets to make one feel beautiful.

I’m not sure if you have a fancy family member, I feel like every family has to have one, but mine is my aunt. She goes to New York regularly and drinks the nicest wines and has taught herself to make sushi. It’s hard to get gifts for her because she is so fancy, but I am sure the duo I came up with would please even my picky aunt! Hunt Slonem makes the sweetest bunnies, but he has been making his bunnies even more elegant lately with adding gold and silver metallic paint to his line up and 2 Play has to be my absolute favorite. It comes in one of his stunning antique frames as he usually plans, but this piece is oval and the soft golden frame is the perfect compliment to the metallic paint inside the frame. The second half of this duo comes from Velvet Coat and is, in fact, a coat. They have this stunning forest colored Aluna coat that I know my aunt would just die over. The duo is the perfect for-someone-who-has-everything gift especially coming from the midwest with or unforgiving winters.

Being in the east village I often have to walk past AllSpice and you know if you’ve been in the area just how mouth wateringly amazing it smells to walk past the door. Allspice has these wonderful gift sets to make gift shopping a little easier. You can always pick out your own favorites to give the chef in your life if you would like as well. As for the chef’s wall I’ve selected three pieces to go along with this gift: Quilted Bowl I, II, and IV by Taelor Fisher. I am a huge fan of trios and these three would look absolutely exquisite in a dining room.

I was browsing Leona Ruby’s website for gifts the other day and I stumbled upon their fruit shaped earrings and I am obsessed. They are so fun and playful and they even have a set that is called “fruit basket” and has four different fruit shaped earrings and I couldn’t help but think of Thats a Wrap by Lesley Grainger. The colors are all so vibrant and flamboyant and would complement the colors in the earrings so well! This duo is made for the playful spirit. Happy holiday shopping!
