DSM Street Collective Mural:

Liz Lidgett Gallery first collaborated with Vibrant Coffeehouse on a small alleyway mural by artist Laura Palmer. When it was time to expand the mosaic of murals, the DSM Street Collective reached out to work with Jimmy Navarro, a celebrated muralist known for his iconic pieces at the Iowa State Fair. After over a year of planning, Jimmy brought a vibrant scene of diverse bikers to the alleyway, infusing it with plenty of local flair. Located at the corner of E 6th St and Grand—between DSM Street Collective and Vibrant Coffeehouse—this striking new mural features the faces of actual community members who live and work nearby. It’s a heartwarming personal touch that makes this mural truly special!

Roosevelt High School Library Murals:

Liz is a proud Roosevelt alum (as is her husband) and was thrilled to collaborate with her alma mater on this project. “It meant so much that Roosevelt sought to work with alumni and other artists with a strong connection to the school. Roosevelt helped shape who I am today, so it was a dream come true to leave my mark—both literally and figuratively—on the school.” The artists involved included alumni, parents of alumni, and current teachers. Each shares a deep love for Roosevelt and has gone on to become a nationally recognized working artist.

Roosevelt Mural Artists:
  • Liz Lidgett (neon sign)
  • Anna Frederick (shine quote)
  • ASPHATE (graffiti)
  • Katie Jensen (courtyard)
  • Jimmy Navarro (shoes)
  • Reuben Cheatem (Vinyl of Woman)
  • Nicole James (Mosaic - TRHS teacher)
  • Mary Pat LaMair (mural - TRHS teacher)

a glimpse at the process

Each artist brought a different take and style to their mural in the TRHS library. The one thing they all had in common was their Rider pride and their commitment to showing off all that the school had to offer. Katie Jensen is an alumni and loves the physical beauty of the school and the front lawn. Recently, due to a storm, some trees were lost and so her mural was a tribute to the nature surrounding the school. Jimmy Navarro created a locker scene with his signature sneakers, each sneaker representing a different student style, and many stickers and pins showing off clubs and activities available to Roosevelt. Liz Lidgett wanted to create the perfect photo spot with bright color blocking and a neon sign, and Anna Frederick wanted to leave a positive messge for the students. Reuben Cheatem used a piece of artwork that celebrates the diversity in the student body. These are just a few examples of the many pieces of artwork throughout the library, each one chosen with care and a story to tell about the school.
