Artist Spotlight: Fares Micue

I have absolutely fallen in love with Fares Micue’s work, and figured it was about time for a proper introduction of this amazing artist. She started her interest in photography back in 2009 just as a way to have nice images rather than pixelated phone images, and her love for the medium has blossomed into something she could have never imagined. Every element in her portraits is intentional and deeply thought out; using the colors, poses and props to tell a story. In her own words: “I am a highly positive person and this positivity often reflects on my work delivering images with a strong message on personal growth, reflection, self worth and overcoming obstacles. My images are characterized for simple backgrounds, saturated colors and strong conceptual load with a highly aesthetic charm. I want my work to be viewed as a whole story condensed in one frame.”

Why do you love what you do?

Because thanks to photography I am able to combine my love for art, positivity, and writing into one that allowed me to share my vision with the world, and spread a message of empowerment and growth. The fact that my work makes others reflect and think about their own lives, dreams, and journey is the more rewarding part of all.

What is something you cannot go a day without?

Without a doubt, I can't go a day without writing. It is my favorite activity to do, whether it is planning new images, planning about the future, or simply reviewing my day.

When did you consider yourself an artist?

Art has always been an important part of my life and I always knew I wanted to dedicate my life to create and share my ideas with the world, I wasn't sure about the medium to do so until I discovered photography, but despite that, I didn't consider myself an artist until recently, when I started to see that my work was finally putting out there the exact message I always wanted to share.

If you could go back and give yourself advice when you were just starting out, what would you say?

Follow your heart, because you already know where you want to go and who you want to be, you just need to believe in yourself, nothing is impossible. That's why I constantly share this message through my art; I want everybody to realize it as soon as possible (and not waste time on self doubt).

What is something that you have been inspired by lately?

I have been waking up pretty early these days and have been able to see the sunrise. It has been an amazing source of inspiration for me. There is something about the beginning of a new day that always makes me feel like I have another chance to make more and better things; it is very empowering.

Do you keep a sketchbook?

I am not the organized type so I do not keep it in a specific notebook instead, I have dozens of papers flying here and there with image sketches and ideas.
