Met Gala 2021 favorites

With a break between the last two gala's we had to know this year would be one to beat.

There is no way we can include all of the incredible looks from this year's Met Gala, but let’s talk about a few of my favorites. This year's theme, after taking a year off for COVID, was American Independence and some of these looks really hit it out of the park.

Quannah Chasinghorse at the Met Gala 2021 in gold

My personal favorite was Quannah Chasinghorse. Quannah is an indiginious model who has ancestry from Hän Gwich’in ( Alaska and Canada) and Oglala Lakota ( South Dakota) and used this as a driving force for her Met look. This was her first year at the Met and has taken the fashion world by storm. She was very excited to be representing Indigenous people at the met and the opportunity to show the beauty of native indignity. Her gown was designed by Peter Dundas and all of her jewelry was authentic Navajo turquoise and silver. The gown was gold, making her look like a ray of sunshine, and the contrast between her long, raven black, hair and the brilliant gold was absolutely breathtaking.
Naomi Osaka at the Met Gala 2021

Naomi Osaka was dressed by Louis Vuitton and designed by Naomi and her sister Mari along with Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton. She is a Hatian Japanese - four time grand slam winning - tennis player that used her roots to make a statement about America being a melting pot. The gown began as a digital watercolor by her sister Mari that Nicolas then turned into the koi fish print and her hair was inspired by traditional Japanese hairstyles.
Billie Eilish at the Met Gala 2021

Another one of my absolute favorites from the night was Billie Eilish. She was a vision in an elegant, blush, Oscar de la Renta but with one condition: they stop selling furs altogether. Billie is a vegan and animal rights activist and used this moment to make a difference. Billie channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe with a short, blonde, hairdo and a stunning dark liner. She was the embodiment of classic Hollywood glamour.
Lil Nas X at the Met Gala 2021

You didn't think I would not talk about Lil Nas X’s did you? He came in ready to make a statement. He came in with, not one, not two, but three looks. This was his first Met and it’ll be one to beat. Donatella Versace designed all three looks to perfection and allowed Lil Nas X to be able to tell his story beautifully. The first look was a long, beaded, cape designed to look regal. Look number two was a suit of gold armor that fit Lil Nas X like a glove. The last look he served was a stunning bodycon bodysuit that was completely covered in Versace’s signature house print in head to toe crystals. He described the look as his own morph into the public sphere and the way he broke into it and allowed himself to be himself.
I didn't touch on even half of my favorites, but these are a few that really made waves.
