Last month's show,
Enamored, had some pretty amazing new artists making their LLG debut that I am so excited to talk about. These incredible women have such a stunning way of speaking through their work and I want to share with you the way I heard these pieces speaking to what kind of space these beauties would fit in.
Hillary Howorth
is an amazing Nashville-based artist with a knack for the art of perfect layering. She was born and raised in a very artistic household filled with arts and music and dance but did not make the career her own until 2012. Using her work to heal from a heartbreaking loss, she bloomed into an incredible artist and fills each piece with a bit of herself.
I chose to pair her with a bedroom because her work is both energizing and soothing. The movement of the lines are bold and crisp as well as perfectly interlaced. I filled the space with clean crisp whites and cozy jewel tones to make the elegance of Hillary's piece really shine.
Reading corners are for dreaming and inspiration. For transporting you to another place; a place where anything can happen. This piece by
Gina Julian
plays into that inward adventure because it is a bit of an optical illusion; a bit of an adventure itself! The amount of energy that Gina puts into her work radiates off the canvas and fills the space with life. Gina has over 20 years in art directing and it really shows through her work and the way she plays with the colors she uses. She classifies herself as an optical artist because she uses different saturations of the pigment as well as the hues and values of each color and they way that saturation plays with the eyes and the emotions.
Shelby Monteverde's
work is so playful and fun and expressive. She is the third gal on this list working out of Tennessee residing in Memphis and loves to see the romance and beauty in everyday life. Her work screamed playroom to me. A playroom is a haven for imagination and glee which plays along with Shelby's work beautifully. Her goal through her work with everyday objects is that she really wants to pause and reflect during a time of endless to-dos and hustle. Spending time to enjoy the moment and taking time to smell the roses is so important with littles - they grow up fast.
Carrie Gillen
is a St. Louis based artist that works in sculpture in a multitude of ways. She works with live plants as well as materials that are traditionally used for home building, and lastly, fabric. Her fabric sculptural paintings are absolutely exquisite. This image does not do it justice. I paired it with a breakfast nook because the way the fabric twists feels like home; like an unmade bed, a favorite item of clothing or a table cloth with family around it. Breakfast nooks make me think of taking time to start the day intentionally, slowly and with the people you love. The colors in this piece feel both vintage and modern. Almost a mixing of the past and the future or a reflection of what was and what is to come. It feels effortless and intentional at the same time. It is truly a breathtaking, show stoping addition to any space.
Timelessness always pairs nicely with timelessness. Find what speaks to you.
