Texture group show

One of my biggest joys with this gallery is exploring certain topics, mediums, and ideas through artwork by multiple artists. Our group shows have also been an exciting way to introduce new artists to the gallery and vice versa, our audience and collectors to new artists. Opening Friday is Texture, a show exploring just that—texture.

As you’ll see, some of these works included are quite literally textured but others are 2D but represent texture beautifully. The idea for this show came from the fact that I’m a very tactile person and often want to just reach out and touch a work of art. I’ll have to watch myself around this show because all of these works tackle this idea of texture in such interesting and unique ways.

I have worked with Jose Romussi for years as an art advisor, and I am thrilled to be representing his work here in Iowa officially. His images of dancers where he has embroidered their costumes and movement have gone viral and have been adored by audiences all over the world. He continues to update these images by also adding crystals their costumes to add another layer of dimension to his work.

Elisa Sheehan has quickly become a gallery favorite as we cannot keep her work in stock! This will be Elisa’s first official inclusion in a show and I’m very excited to be sharing her new acrylic boxes that she has begun experimenting with. These Kinstugi-inspired painted eggshells just pop off of the canvas and you’ll want to practically press your nose against the glass to get a closer look. (Don’t worry, it won’t be the first time we’ve cleaned a nose print off the glass.)

Betsy Enzensberger is another fan favorite who will be included in the show. Betsy recently sent us a larger-than-life popsicle sculpture covered in more than 1500 Swarovski crystals. The acrylic popsicle stick seems to glow perfectly and her resin sculpture represents the perfect point of mid-melt of the most glamorous popsicle you’ve ever seen.

We’ll have work by over 10 artists in the show, including the three above and new work by Olivia Valentine, Leigh Suggs, and Brad and Sundie Ruppert. We hope to see you Friday night at the opening, January 31, from 4-7 pm. Our doors are always open M-F, 10-5 if you’d like to come see the show next week too. I have a feeling these works are going to fly!
