Hey everyone, Liz here to introduce you to Aly. You have may have had the pleasure of meeting Aly on a Friday at the gallery or at one of our many events. We have been thrilled to have her a part of the team. She’s also an avid blogger about her own personal life so we recruited her to help out around the blog here too. Aside from being an art lover, she also has a degree in Fine Art so we are lucky to have expertise around here too. Take it away, Aly! - LL
Whether you're making it, collecting it, or admiring it, art reflects who you are. It reflects the state of mind you are in at the moment and what you are in need of. For example, my busy mom friends are really drawn to pieces like Taelor Fisher's Eucalyptus which is both chaotic and calm. It is a reflection of what is going on in their lives, but pulls in the calm that they so need from day to day.

Another example is my friend who is studying at the university—he is more interested in bright colors and familiar shapes. He chooses bright reds and oranges like in this Andrea Ferrigno titled Open Source, to keep him motivated and focused rather than blues and greens which are more soothing. I could get on a whole spiel on color theory, but you get the picture—warm colors draw energy and cool colors evoke a sense of calm.

This also being said, once lifestyle, or the season of life changes then what if your art tastes change? What if you no longer feel like it is speaking to you? What if that university student becomes a busy parent?

Your collection is a reflection of who you have been. It is a reflection of what has been and what you were feeling and doing at that point in your life. Each piece tells a different part of your story and fills the walls of your home with a beautiful display of the life you have lived, the places you have gone and the person you were when all of that was happening. You are walking around in your scrapbook, filling the pages with memories along the way. Change is inevitable, but who you are now is making who you are going to be in a couple of years when your taste changes.
