Artful pairings

We received a question from a client this week asking, “Can you ever be too matchy-matchy with your art? Should you only have pieces from the same artist in one room?” These are really great questions—and not the first time we've been asked.

When it comes to being “match-matchy” with your art, we have a few helpful rules. We definitely believe in the power of cohesion when it comes to the art in your home. It doesn’t have to perfectly match color or texture, but in general, you can incorporate all types of mediums and styles while seeing a continued thread throughout the pieces.

We work hard to include artists in our gallery roster that all work well together—they’re all different artists from different backgrounds with different mediums—but the aesthetic and vibe reflect one another. Just as we’ve selected these artists in our gallery, you can do the same with the artwork in your home.
Kate Blomquist and Logan Ledford
KATE BLOMQUIST // REACHER, $2500 + LOGAN LEDFORD // THE ODE TO SHERBERT, $3200
Ashley Mary and Allison James
ASHLEY MARY // UNTITLED, $2800 + ALLISON JAMES // PLAYGROUND RULES, $1500
And to answer the “one room, one artist” question—yes, you can definitely also highlight just one artist with multiple pieces in the same space. Depending on the artist, many have enough variety in their medium that they can complement each other perfectly, while being different enough. A great example of this tactic is Logan Ledford! We love this collection together in one room.

Pairing the right two art pieces together in a room can transform the space into a brand new room. If you’d like to see how we would style artwork in your home, send us an email at hello@lizlidgett.com with a picture of the space and, just like these pictures, we’ll place our art suggestions on your walls. Absolutely no commitment necessary—we just truly love pairing artwork with a room! Our creative brain starts rolling, and we can’t help it.
