Liz Lidgett Gallery + Design is the product of encouragement from this amazing community, a national eye looking at what’s going on in both Des Moines and the Midwest and incredible resources and mentorship by many. I am so thankful for this opportunity and the many opportunities afforded me all due to this very special place that just can’t be replicated.
It’s also the product of my insatiable need to help the growth of our local arts community. Almost 9 years ago, my husband Nick and I moved back to Des Moines. We had seen how the arts community had blossomed since our time here as kids, and we wanted to be a part of it. Fast forward to today, I love watching and seeing how this community continues to grow. I have a huge amount of respect for the artists and other galleries in Des Moines and I want to help continue their great work. Adding our gallery to the mix will mean there is an added way for our clients to connect with local, national and international artists.
When I sat down and thought about what this gallery could be, I wrote a long list of attributes for my perfect gallery. We would represent at least 50% women artists. We would show artists that have a variety of backgrounds and demographics. We would show artists from around the world side by side with local artists. We would donate a portion of profits to an arts organization each quarter. We would connect our clients and community with these artists and share their process through impactful and relatable education. Then I realized, all of those things could become a reality. I finally had a place I could create as my own little art utopia.
So, we will be doing all of those things with an emphasis on education and connection. This is a gallery you can walk into without the fear of feeling out of place. We will greet you with a smile and a chat. There will be art at a variety of price points, so whether you are just starting your art collection or you’re growing your collection, this is the place for you. Our artists are local, national and international and for almost all, it is the first time they have worked with an Iowa gallery. We are excited to bring new faces to this community, to both share their work with clients and share Des Moines with these artists.
So, welcome to the newly renovated lizlidgett.com that encompasses our new brand and gallery location. This art gallery and retail location has been almost 7 years in the making, and I could not be more proud that this day is here. I also have to give a huge thank you to Tina Ehrlich, the Director of Operations + Marketing. This website, our newsletters, and much more are a testament to her hard work and talent.
